Seligeria donniana

HomeLearningSpecies FinderSeligeria donniana

Identification notes

Easily recognised as a Seligeria, this species is fairly straightforward to identify but only when capsules have recently matured and the genuine absence of any peristome will distinguish it from the likes of S. pusilla, S. calcarea, S. calycina, S. acutifolia and other species with spreading leaves and a straight seta. Like Weissia, Seligeria species can be frustratingly anonymous when capsules are young, and many species (including S. donniana) are at their most identifiable from early summer into the autumn. Beware very old capsules of other species, which may have lost their peristome teeth.
