Identification notes
Definitely a connoisseur’s moss! You are unlikely to find this little acrocarp unless you are already on hands and knees scouring disturbed, damp clayey ground in all manner of places in northern and western districts. It is a slender species that does not very much resemble other small Philonotis species. It also tends to be found in drier habitats than its larger relatives. You may have to examine a number of different well-grown plants and/or leaves to spot the tell-tale Philonotis leaf mamillae.
