Marsupella aquatica

HomeLearningSpecies FinderMarsupella aquatica

Identification notes

Previously recognised as a subspecies of M. emarginata, M. aquatica tends to be greener, larger and more swollen-looking because of its very shallow or nearly absent leaf sinus (notch). It also differs from M. emarginata in habitat preferences; it favours wetter places, often growing submerged or frequently inundated on rock in watercourses, still waters and in waterfall spray. In most areas, it is less common than M. emarginata.
