Identification notes

This species is less common than most of its relatives and also usually appears slightly more robust (though beware large specimens of F. tamarisci on rock). It tends to be found on rocks that are at least mildly basic and/or where it will be influenced by windborne salt spray near the sea. It is very much a lowland species and tends to be restricted to western areas that are relatively sheltered and frost-free.
