Identification notes
In many areas, this is the species of Andreaea most likely to be seen, although its distribution range overlaps with that of A. rupestris, which is the more widespread of the two species. There are subtle habitat differences between these two species, A. rothii favouring exposed and periodically wet situations such as in seeping, sloping rock slabs. A. rupestris typically grows in drier situations. The other Andreaea species are less common and some, such as A. alpestris, A. frigida and A. sinuosa are very rare montane species mainly associated with Cairngorm snowbeds.
