An introduction to mosses and liverworts. As part of the Centenary celebrations of the founding of the British Bryological Society (https://www.britishbryologicalsociety.org.uk), we will be running an event in collaboration with HMWT to enthuse people about the beautiful mosses and liverworts that contribute to the “hidden” biodiversity of habitats.
Hand lenses and Field Guides will be available for people to look at some of the over 20 species that grow on the trees in Tewin Orchard and in the different habitats around the orchard. We will be looking at the features that can be used to identify them.
There will be two sessions during the day, led by Agneta Burton and Astrid Biddle:
- morning, 10-12.30
- afternoon, 1.30-4 p.m.
This is a free event, but a donation to HMWT would be very welcome. Please ensure that you are booking the correct time, places must be booked to ensure your space.
Outdoor clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather and for walking through the grassy areas of the orchard should be worn.
Please book your attendance though the HMWT website: https://www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk/events/introduction-to-mosses-and-liverworts-21oct23
