Extending over 157 ha, Monks Wood is the biggest wood in our area. In 2019 we started a compartment-by-compartment survey of the wood,. This was intended as a follow up to the extensive survey of Monks Wood NNR conducted by Chris Preston and Kevin Walker between 2003 and 2007. In 2019 we expected to take 4 years. We completed the two years 2019 and 2020, missed 2021 and 2022 because of Covid, and added 2023 and 2024. This is a mopping-up operation, and is the last of our planned excursions to the wood. Chris Preston will lead us.
Park at 11 am in the public car park TL201808. The postcode PE28 2LR will take you to the south side of the wood (formerly Monks Wood Experimental Station, now a police training facility). The parking is at the north.
