10 December 2023 (10:30 - 16:00)

If you like Sphagnum, this meeting at Oakers Bog won’t fail to impress. This SSSI is a magnificent and relatively intact L-shaped valley mire on deep wet peat in an extensive complex of heathland, valley mire and woodland in the Poole Basin.

Meeting details

Leader: Andrew Branson

This fine area of heath and mire includes an extensive area of Sphagnum bog, which supports an abundance of the Dorset speciality, S. pulchrum, as well as a good range of bog hepatics and species of damp heath. There is also some nice woodland and scrub, so we should also expect to find a good range of epiphytes. Welly boots essential!

Meet at the free Forestry Commission car park at Culpeppers Dish at SY814924, off the minor road south of Briantspuddle.

Please remember to book your place with Andrew Branson (Andrew@(at)3alpacas.co.uk)
